I played zoo tycoon when I was little and I wanted to play again but I saw planet zoo was the only zoo tycoon like game on steam (or it was at the time) so I wanted to try it. Zoo tycoon was much more user friendly and casual which is more my style so I was very overwhelmed. However I really like watching people play this game. You are so good at this game haha every time I play something goes wrong because so many small details go into everything you do in the game. It’s a super great game the graphics are amazing and it’s so realistic and you can do so much in the game.

I am very much a casual zoo player. I love Planet Zoo for everything you can do but I definitely wish there were more decent looking ploppables. If I want to just plop down a premade, realistic-looking restaurant or bathroom or something, and just focus on Managing and building zoo habitats, that would be nice. I also wish there was more of a management scenario very much like franchise mode, but you take over a pre-made Zoo, and just manage the animals and maybe slowly expand it at your own pace. Not having to start franchise mode from scratch because building the entrance and layout of the zoo, that's where I lack the vision. So Planet Zoo, like Coaster, can become very intimidating for me. That said I do still very much love the game and will spend a lot of time playing it despite being bad at building.

First time when i started playing this game i was so overwhelmed, I could not figure out how to build stuff, how to set up a good habitat barriers, etc. I told myself i will never play it again. Then after a week i gave it a second try and omg i am in love! Planet zoo is my ultimate favorite game EVER.

Hey Rudi, I play mostly on franchise mode but have managed to build some stunning looking zoos that have evolved over time – just like real ones. The only thing I would really change is to be able to delete the entrance building in franchise too. You tubers like you really help encourage me and helped me with tutorials which made it less difficult to build something beautiful

This is still my favorite game of all time. It helps it brings nostalgia back from Zoo Tycoon 2, but the various features, the realism, the beauty, and Frontiers' constant updates and communications to zoos to ensure quality for the game is what keeps this game going for me. It's insane watching youtubers spend hours building one amazingly crafted exhibit. I just don't have the time or patience for that, but I am glad I can play causally and still have beautiful exhibits. I have two issues with the game.

I feel the game is pushed to run at the faster gameplay which doesnt give me a lot of time to really appreciate individual animals like I did all the time in zoo tycoon 2. There isn't a lot of interaction available between me and the animals, and sometimes an animal is born, matures, and dies without me even getting to know that animal. I wish there was someway to bridge this gap.

The other issue I have is that I feel the game developers could be making animals for the game much faster than the current rate of 4 animals a pack (with the exception of Southeast Asia Pack). I am always happy to pay more money for more animals, objects, and challenges. I am glad the challenges have become tougher for me in the last few packs, but I can never have enough of them. I deeply desire a plethora of new animals including those of aquatic and avian diversity. It would be great too if we could get butterfly garden house, carousel, birds with guests able to feed birds, tanks for fish, aviaries for birds, Dip-N-Dots-esque stands, shark/ray touch pool, easier path tunneling underwater, bus tour, larger gift shops, hotel, restaurants, more blueprints and prefab buildings, ZT2 waterfalls (2 pools of water with different elevations next to each other make a waterfall), more terrains, 4D rides, cats deep diving, etc. I feel as if any of those things would liven up the game and make aspects of the game feel fresh. It makes me miss to some extent the ZT2 expansions that make the game feel entirely different with new mechanics, 20 new animals, all new campaigns, and new themes to unlock.

I play the game very casually I've had it since release and its one of those games where I'm still learning how to use all the interfaces but I find it really peaceful and relaxing I do find aspects rather overwhelming and frustrating like terrain manipulation which can be really finicky at times, for me the option of pre terraformed maps would be really useful and I really enjoy looking through the workshop

  7. Ashley Teasdale says:

i'm sure a lot of this is already mentioned,
    – They need to provide many more frontier blue prints and frontier tutorials (especially about the building mechanics). that are easy to find and access for new players. The amount of time spent building for guests really takes away from the experience for people who just love animals and want to build habitats etc.
    – OR sponsor and link tutorial content from creators to fill that need. I played for months barely muddling through because i don't use social media much and didn't realize there was a wealth of helpful content.
    – let go of planet coaster things like only powered, bright billboards when most zoos use simple posters. only kiosk style shops: why not give us an option without the box and just a nice counter that can fit in an interior space.
better barrier system, specifically improving the gate selection and style. allow for exhibit tops on barriers like chain link etc. colour changeable log barrier.
    – more piece variety in each set (ex. a few types of thicker roof trim to provide more overhang without splitting the group). Seems like it makes things more complicated, but actually makes building easier.
-better help menu explanations about how to use terrain tools and how to make terrain, paths, and barriers work together…this would solve most complaints about pathing

  8. Beth says:

My favorite part of the game is campaign and the challenges. I like management with a side of creativity; building a whole zoo from scratch often doesn’t measure up to my expectations and I get annoyed with my own lack of skills. So using prebuilt environments and zoos but making them my own and making them run smoothly is how I play.

  9. lstark says:

I actually love the campaign mode! It's something you don't see on youtube but for those less creative (me), it helps to have a scenario and build to that. It would be cool if scenarios could be created for us to play by those more creative in the community!

  10. Astrid Fokkema says:

    Hi Rudi!
My and my bf are both casual players of planet zoo. The game was a bit daunting to me at first, but not nearly as much as planet coaster was. I think it's a good thing they added the tutorial. Watching a few videos helped as well.
My bf has two problems with the game though. The pathing system (Lets face it, who doesn't) and he would like for the basic building pieces to just pick the piece and select the skin (like in prehistoric kingdom, I think).
Like someone else here said, I would like some maps which already have some terra forming done.
Anyway, your zoo looks great, as always

  11. Daeris says:

I've started playing this game because… animals. I love animations, sounds, how it looks when sun rises. I also love the campaign mode. And I've always thought that zoos in my country are not enough for animals and I somewhat "compensate" that in the game. I still play it, usually one habitat on one sitting, just for some relax time 🙂 I never thought of the building system as overwhelming, I spent too much time in Sims games 😉 I love your buildings and habitat, I got tons of inspirations from it <3

  12. Samwelito says:

I got this game and I was super excited. I played the tutorials, and went directly to the sandbox mode, even though my zoo was ugly, I loved the game and all the building possibilities that the game offers. I started playing, and getting a little better, I still wasn’t very good but i enjoyed the game but , after some days playing, and not getting that much progress, I stopped playing, it was also because I started playing other games. But I started watching planet zoo YouTube videos, and saw that there it was so much more to do, and now, I’m playing the game like 1h a day minimum and I love it, so I kept playing because of ppl like u,thanks 🙏

  13. ValleyOfDreams says:

im late. sorry. I dont feel overwhelmed, but I (sometimes) feel guilty because I use ingame stuff like the fences and Buildings because many people do these breathtaking buildings… and I dont 😀

  14. AllisonM1014 says:

I just bought the game last night and am not yet through the tutorial. Overwhelming is definitely the right word. I have really enjoyed building in The Sims 4 and the complexity and depth of building in this game appealed to me. I can tell it's going to be a long learning curve, hoping I'll stay invested enough to stick with it.

  15. Ella Weirich says:

REALLY late, but lions are ABSOLUTELY the best for CCs. I've gotten around 800-900 conservation credits from releasing a good-genetic lion. It's because they are critically endangered. They also can have 2-4 babies at a time, and you can have a LOT of females at once, so you can have a lot of cubs at once. I have 3 females and one male in my franchise zoo, and there are ALWAYS at least 3-6 cubs in the enclosure. Of course they need a good bit of space, and can be expensive to get from the market, but if you can save up for one male and one female, they will start paying off in conservation credits VERY quickly. Even a poor-genetics lion cub can bring in a good 300+ conservation credits as long as they are not completely infertile. Plus, if you sell the babies with good genes, you can get over 1,000 credits pretty easily. (so, I recommend selling ones with, for example, 100% fertility and above 70% for most of the rest, if you get any.)
Anyways, essay on lions done. Thanks very much for starting this series! It's fun and relaxing to watch, and I love the idea of doing a "tiny" zoo! It would be kind of fun to see you do maybe a asian or south american tiny zoo once the african one is filled out. Of course, any franchise series would be fun to watch!!

  16. Derrick Frazier says:

It was overwhelming at first, but I have gotten better with it. I still need more practice on making exhibits as original as the ones you create. I do go with out playing for weeks at a time to play other games. But I always get back into it when there's a new update or DLC. I did just start a franchise zoo, which I haven't played franchise in over a year. But I've been watching your videos more lately and I'm getting inspired to do more.

  17. Empress_Lisanne says:

I've talked about this before. I was really enthousiastic when I first started playing the game, but when I realized how much time it takes to make something look nice, I stopped playing. Completely overwhelming. For example, I also play the Sims 4, and if you build vor 30min, you have a decent and detailed house. If I want to build a habitat with a viewing gallery and make it somewhat detailed, it takes me HOURS. And I just want to play with the animals, that's why I got the game.

Within PlanetZoo, I prefer the campaigns/challenges, because the zoos are mostly pre-build and already pretty. That's why it was such a big deal for me to have built a diorama, because it was the first thing I've build in PlanetZoo in a year. It also took me 2 hours, which I find a long time for the simple diorama that I made.

  18. Jessica de Roo says:

I do play it as a casual player, mostly sandbox mode. I got inspired to buy it by watching you and a couple of other players. I'm not much of a gamer myself and the tools and possibilities did overwhelm me, at the point that I at first watched many MANY tutorials first to understand what exactly I could do. And it's still a lot to grasp. I play it 2 to 4 times a month, due to lack of time, so I also don't have too much time to get cozy with the game. Meaning I have animals and building pieces I haven't even touched yet! But having said that, it still excites me to open the game, watch one of your videos and wait for new dlc's! I am constantly amazed by almost everything the game brings.

  19. moofy says:

Tiny zoo is looking great and that camel is pumped to be apart of it! I'm a casual player and tend to take a few months off at a time because it's too overwhelming. I wish the terrain tools covered more ground or that there we pre terraformed maps that would help me past my creative block. I do better building around things that are already there, especially since doing my own terraforming takes SO SO long, and I just don't have the time or attention span.

  20. Pim Wilmink says:

I love planet zoo cause you can build everything in the game during my first time playing i needed to learn a lot but now its soo fun to build and create everything i have in mind!

  21. Eni says:

I love planet zoo. But the tools are indeed overwhelming. I dont want less options, I just want the options to be more clear. It would be nice to have more building and short-cut hints within the game until youve learned it by heart.
We probably shouldnt have to print out a whole list of commands to keep next to us just to be able to build a shelter.

  22. Odd Audio says:

First, loving this tiny zoo (got my sub with it!). Second, as much as I've enjoyed watching yours and others' Planet Zoo vids, not sure if I want to invest in it myself. Looks really fun, but without a ton of spare time and ~$50 just to get started (and $100 or so all-in), hard to justify the expense.
